AI search · Perplexity

Get your business recommended by Perplexity.

Perplexity searches its own index for every question and shows its sources as numbered links. Being one of those sources is how a business gets named.

Where answers come from

What Perplexity reads before it names a business.

From Perplexity's own documentation wherever it exists. Sources at the bottom of the page.

The web

Perplexity runs its own search index, which it describes as covering hundreds of billions of web pages, built by its crawler, PerplexityBot.

Local businesses

Perplexity began using Yelp data in its answers about local businesses in 2024, according to press reports at the time. Perplexity hasn't published a full list of its local data sources.

Your website

PerplexityBot indexes pages for answers and, Perplexity says, isn't used to train models. Perplexity-User fetches a page when a person asks for it and, per Perplexity's docs, generally ignores robots.txt.

What to do

How to get recommended by Perplexity.

You can do every step yourself. Or we do them for you, on all six assistants, every month.

  1. 01

    Allow PerplexityBot

In robots.txt and in your firewall. Perplexity says changes can take up to 24 hours to apply.

  2. 02

    Be a page worth citing

Perplexity shows its sources. Pages that answer one question directly, with specific facts, are the ones that end up as a numbered link.

  3. 03

    Keep your Yelp page complete

Hours, categories, photos and recent reviews, since Yelp is one of the local sources Perplexity has drawn on.

  4. 04

    Publish what customers ask about

Prices, services, areas, availability. If the fact only exists in a phone call, Perplexity can't cite it.

We do all of this for you, on six AI assistants.

$399/mo billed annually or $499 month to month. No setup fee.

PerplexityBot isn't used for training, according to Perplexity, so there's no training trade-off to weigh: allow it.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

  • Does Perplexity use Google or Bing?

Perplexity runs its own index and crawler. Ranking on Google doesn't carry over automatically; PerplexityBot has to be able to read your pages.

  • Why does Perplexity cite a directory instead of my website?

Because the directory page answered the question and yours didn't, or PerplexityBot couldn't read yours. Check access first, then make sure your own page states the facts the directory lists.

  • Can I see which of my pages Perplexity cites?

Each answer lists its sources, so you can check by asking the questions your customers ask. Repeat it over a few days: the sources shift as Perplexity's index updates.
