The web
OpenAI says ChatGPT search sometimes partners with other search providers, and the partner privacy terms it links to are Microsoft's. In Seer Interactive's test, 87% of ChatGPT search citations matched Bing's top 20 results, against 56% for Google's.
Local businesses
Yelp told its shareholders in August 2026 that Yelp ratings and reviews now power ChatGPT's local experience in relevant categories. BrightLocal's 2026 study also found Yelp to be ChatGPT's most-used source for local answers.
Your website
OAI-SearchBot crawls pages for ChatGPT's search answers, and ChatGPT-User opens a page when someone asks ChatGPT to. OpenAI says a site has to allow OAI-SearchBot to appear in search answers.

Let OAI-SearchBot in
Check that robots.txt allows it and that your firewall or CDN doesn't block it. OpenAI publishes the IP ranges it crawls from, for firewalls that need them.

Get indexed by Bing
Verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools and submit your sitemap. A page Bing hasn't indexed is a page ChatGPT's searches are less likely to find.

Build out your Yelp page
Right categories, current hours, real photos and a steady flow of recent reviews. It's the local source Yelp says ChatGPT now uses.

Write the facts down on your site
Services, prices, towns served, insurance or brands accepted. ChatGPT can only repeat what it finds written somewhere it can read.

Does ChatGPT use Google or Bing?
OpenAI doesn't publish a full list of its search partners. Its help center points to Microsoft, and Seer Interactive found ChatGPT's citations matched Bing's top results far more often than Google's. Being well indexed on both is the safe course.
Will blocking GPTBot keep my business out of ChatGPT?
No. GPTBot collects training data. ChatGPT's search answers use OAI-SearchBot, which you control separately. You can block one and allow the other.
Why does ChatGPT recommend my competitor?
Usually because it found more written about them: more recent reviews on Yelp and Google, pages that state the service and the town, and listings that agree with each other. The gap is rarely one thing, which is why we track the same questions for you and your competitors.
How do I see what ChatGPT says about my business?
