AI search · Gemini
Get your business recommended by Gemini.
Gemini answers from Google Search and Google Maps. For a local business, that makes your Google Business Profile the most important page you own.
Where answers come from
What Gemini reads before it names a business.
From Google's own documentation wherever it exists. Sources at the bottom of the page.
The web
Gemini grounds its answers in Google Search results. Google-Extended, a robots.txt setting, decides whether your pages can be used to train Gemini and to ground answers in the Gemini app.
Local businesses
Google Maps now has Gemini built in. Ask Maps, launched in March 2026 in the US and India, answers questions using information on more than 300 million places and reviews from Maps contributors.
Your website
Googlebot crawls your site for Search, including AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google says blocking Google-Extended doesn't affect inclusion or ranking in Search, but it does affect the Gemini app.

What to do
How to get recommended by Gemini.
You can do every step yourself. Or we do them for you, on all six assistants, every month.
01
Complete your Google Business Profile
Primary and secondary categories, every service, accurate hours, attributes, photos and regular posts. BrightLocal found Business Profiles are the main source for Google's AI answers.
02
Keep reviews coming
Recent reviews, answered. They are part of what Ask Maps reads when it answers a question about you.
03
Leave Googlebot and Google-Extended open
Blocking Google-Extended keeps your pages out of Gemini app answers, even though Search is unaffected.
04
Answer the question on the page
Put the answer to a customer's question near the top of the page that's about it, in plain words. That's the passage AI answers can lift.
05
Keep your site and profile in agreement
Same hours, same services, same phone number. When they disagree, AI has two answers and no way to choose.
We do all of this for you, on six AI assistants.
$399/mo billed annually or $499 month to month. No setup fee.
Crawlers
Google's crawlers, and what each one does.
Google-Extended isn't a separate crawler: Googlebot fetches the page, and the Google-Extended rule in robots.txt decides how Gemini may use it.

FAQ
Questions people ask.
Are Gemini and Google AI Overviews the same thing?
They share Google's index and models, but they're different products. AI Overviews and AI Mode appear inside Google Search; the Gemini app is a separate assistant, and Ask Maps brings it into Google Maps. Your Business Profile feeds all of them.
Should I block Google-Extended?
Only if keeping your pages out of Gemini's training matters more to you than appearing in Gemini app answers. Google says the setting covers both training and grounding in the Gemini app. Search and AI Overviews aren't affected either way.
Does ranking on Google mean Gemini will recommend me?
It helps, but it isn't the same test. AI answers pick a few businesses and quote specific facts, so a page that ranks but never states your prices, services or service area gives the answer little to use.
